Sign PETITION to encourage lawmakers to pass Jessica's Law in New Jersey, protect children nationwide

Stop Child Predators launched last week a petition to encourage lawmakers to pass Jessica's Law in New Jersey. Now we need your help to collect the 20,000 signatures needed to present to state officials.

By signing our petition you're supporting long, mandatory sentences for convicted child sex offenders. Statistics show that such sentences are the most effective means of protecting children. Simply put, the sentences act as a deterrent to initial victimization, and keeps predators off the streets so our children are safer.

So far, 44 states have passed a version of Jessica's Law, the law named after nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford who was raped and murdered by a twice-convicted sex offender in Florida in 2005. The law calls for 25-year-to-life mandatory prison sentences for child sex offenders, and lifetime electronic monitoring for offenders released from prison.

New Jersey is one of six states that have yet to pass the law.
